The Pony Share Scheme offers young people
the opportunity to experience ownership of a horse / pony, regardless of finance or knowledge. Share owners learn how to care for their horse's needs, to be a good leader for their horse, building the relationship & creating a safe, fun, partnership using Natural Horsemanship. Every share owner is valued & welcomed in The PSS community, giving a place to belong & socialise in a safe, positive & fun environment.

We are different from your usual riding stables!

We are not a riding school, or a riding centre

We are a unique Community Interest Company (CIC) offering young people (and children 9yrs+) the chance to own a share in a horse or pony. Sharers have unprecedented access to their horse or pony - being always welcome at the yard and stables during normal opening hours. Sharers get a 2 hour play & ride session per week (which is so much more than the usual 1hr horse ride per week offered elsewhere!).

They also get to take part in every area of their horses life, from stable skipping, poo picking, feeding, worming and in fact everything to do with owning your own horse! This even includes being welcome during vet, farrier and dentist visits.

All this for just £99 per month.

In addition, there is sponsorship available for up to half the share price, dependent on your circumstances.

Enabling ownership

The PSS enables young people and their families the chance to experience horse ownership regardless of finance, time and knowledge restrictions.

Sharing the costs and work involved opens ownership to all.

Knowledge and confidence is achieved through time spent with the horses and others more experienced. Sharers are able to progress through the PSS and eventually to leave the scheme with the knowledge and skills required to be a responsible horse owner.

The Pony Share Scheme also now offers our young sharers the chance to gain NVQ awards whilst enjoying their time at the scheme... have fun while you learn and get qualified!

Building Relationships

The PSS teaches young people how to build positive relationships.

The PSS practices Natural Horsemanship, which teaches us about having respect and trust in relationships, developing skills and giving the understanding to turn problems around. These skills in turn impact on the young persons relationships with family, peers and each other helping to build and strengthen them.

The scheme provides a safe place for young people to interact with each other.

Finding Identity

The PSS encourages young people to seek their identity and gives them the tools to develop a healthy sense of self worth together with an outward consideration for others.

The young people are given knowledge, responsibility and a fun environment in which this can grow. This enables the young person's feelings of self confidence and worth to develop.
